SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — President Joe Biden on Thursday signed a temporary spending bill a day before a potential government shutdown, pushing a fight with congressional Republicans over the federal budget into the new year, as wartime aid for Ukraine and Israel remains stalled. The measure passed the House and Senate by wide bipartisan margins this week, ensuring the government remains open until after the holiday season, and potentially giving lawmakers more time to sort out their considerable differences over government spending levels for the current fiscal year. Biden signed the bill in San Francisco, where he is hosting the summit of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation economies. News of the signing came late at night. The president signed the bill at the Legion of Honor Museum, where he held a dinner for APEC members. The spending package keeps government funding at current levels for roughly two more months while a long-term package is negotiated. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Sometimes it can be easy to forget that President Joe Biden’s original foreign policy priority was reasserting American influence in Asia. After all, that was before Russian tanks tried to blitz Ukraine, and before Israel and Hamas descended into a fresh round of bloody fighting. With each new crisis, it appeared that Asia was slipping further down the presidential to-do list. But this week was a rare opportunity for Biden to demonstrate otherwise. While playing host for an annual summit of Asian leaders in San Francisco, he could finally refocus on the continent that he views as key to the future. “The United States remains vital to the future of the region, and the region is more vital than ever to the United States of America,” he told a gathering of business executives during one of the summit’s many receptions. “That’s been my administration’s outlook from day one.”Turning that vision into a reality has never been more challeng...Beautiful sunny weekend ahead followed by a Wet Monday; season's coldest air yet arrives on Thanksgiving Day

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The first Formula One practice of the Las Vegas Grand Prix was halted less than 21 minutes into Thursday night’s session after Carlos Sainz Jr. ran over a manhole cover on track. “We are currently looking at an issue with a drain cover,” F1’s governing body said as it called all the cars off the track. “We’re not going to resume as it’s going to take time to understand the issue and take any necessary actions to remedy.”The FIA later said Sainz hit the concrete frame around a manhole cover and the governing body must now inspect every manhole cover on the course. “We will be discussing with the local circuit engineering team about the length of time it will take to resolve and will update with any resultant changes to the schedule,” the FIA said. There is a second practice schedule for midnight. Sainz appeared to run over the manhole cover just nine minutes into the practice on the street course that stretches down the famed Strip.
