GOP Speaker nominee Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) once again fell short of the Speakership Friday in a third vote, continuing the two-week-long stalemate that has plunged the chamber into chaos.Jordan bled more Republican support in the latest attempt, losing 25 GOP votes compared to 20 and 22 on the first and second ballots, respectively.“Our plan this weekend is to get a Speaker elected to the House of Representatives as soon as possible so we can help the American people," Jordan said earlier Friday when asked what his plan is for the weekend.The Ohio Republican scrapped plans to hold a third vote on his bid Thursday after opponents came out of a meeting saying they would maintain their resistance to him and at least two lawmakers who voted for him previously said they would switch their votes.The Republican conference on Thursday also swatted down a proposal to temporarily empower Speaker Pro Tempore Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.), which was viewed by many as a last-ditch way to resume business...APD identifies victim in Saturday homicide investigation

AUSTIN (KXAN) — On Friday, the Austin Police Department identified the victim in a Saturday homicide that occurred in southeast Austin.Austin police said 50-year-old Feliciano Alvarado-Lajuj died after being taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. According to APD, the detectives believed Alvarado-Lajuj was shot in the parking lot by a suspect who left the area.According to police, this case was being investigated as Austin's 53rd homicide of 2023. Class 6A football’s March Madness-style, 32-team bracket dropped Friday morning, setting the stage for next week’s first round of playoffs for Minnesota’s largest high schools.Lakeville South, Centennial, Stillwater and Eden Prairie received the No. 1 seeds, as expected.Teams are seeded by section, and then the seeds are scrambled into four separate quadrants of a full-on, single-elimination bracket. (WTEN) -- The Department of Motor Vehicles and the Department of Environmental Conservation issued an alert warning New York drivers of an increased risk of crashes involving deer and moose during the fall. According to the DEC, these animals are most active during October, November and December due to their natural breeding seasons. In 2022, 41.5% of crashes between deer and vehicles occurred between October and December, according to a study conducted by the University at Albany’s Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research. GARDINER, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- New York State Police responded to a fatal motorcycle crash in the town of Gardiner on Thursday. Police say a preliminary investigation showed a 2012 Subaru was traveling west on SR-299 when it crossed over double yellow lines and struck a 2023 Yamaha motorcycle traveling east. JONESBURG, Mo. -- Dozens of firefighters from multiple departments are battling a massive fire at a scarp metal yard in Jonesburg near Warrenton. That’s about an hour or so west of St. Louis. It’s all happening at the Scrap Mart Metals Recycling Facility just off I-70. Authorities tell FOX 2 that the fire is contained. That is a big improvement over what the situation was like earlier when heavy smoke and flames were coming from the fire site.We’re told the facility is basically a scrap metal business that recycles things like vehicles. Authorities tell us the area that’s on fire contains all non-rubber and non-metallic parts of vehicles which are being recycled. That would be things like foam and fabric.Shelter in place advisoryNo injuries are being reported but the Warren County Emergency Management Director, Jim Sharp, says the smoke poses a low level hazard. ST. LOUIS – A jury has acquitted a St. Louis man of murder charges after a fatal shooting at a child's birthday party. They say Michael Davis, 24, acted in self-defense while shooting William Kennedy, 27 on June 6, 2021.Davis's daughter was turning two years old. His family held a party in the 3000 block of Mount Pleasant Street. Defense lawyer Charles Barberio told jurors that Davis did not want to attend the party because he feared Kennedy would do something to him. He had threatened Davis with a gun months earlier. Feds bust suspected drug ring in St. Louis area A witness told the court that Kennedy did not provoke Davis before the shooting. He was unarmed and a prosecutor argued that he did not pose a threat.“These prior threats influenced Michael’s decision and that’s why he had touse force that day,” stated Barberio.Davis turned himself in to the police after the shooting, turning over his gun and ammo.
