Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 15:41:50 GMT

Darius Tahir | KFF Health News (TNS)Around 3 in 10 Americans still believe ivermectin is an effective treatment for covid. What’s more, few place significant trust in any form of news media or official institution to accurately convey information about health topics, from covid treatments and vaccines to reproductive health issues, a new poll from KFF shows. The confusion about what’s true — and who’s telling the truth — is of critical importance to public health, experts in political science said. “Misinformation leads to lives being lost and health problems not being resolved,” Bob Blendon, a professor emeritus of public health at Harvard, said in an interview. Blendon was not associated with the survey.Such misinformed beliefs are strongly held by only a sliver of the population, according to a new KFF poll. Rethinking retirement: What to know about returning to the workforce

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 15:41:50 GMT

Q. I retired last year at age 66. After an unfulfilling volunteer experience, I find myself in a period of re-evaluation and considering going back to work. Given that, how does one overcome the societal and human resources biases toward rehiring? Is there any place (or hope) for seniors returning, once they retire? G.D.You are not alone in this re-evaluation period. About one in six retired Americans are rethinking their post-retirement life. On average, these folks have been out of the workforce for about four years with half looking for remote positions and two-thirds looking for full-time work. The evaluation process you mentioned is an important first step. Assuming a satisfying work experience, it can be useful to examine the positive aspects of work that you might be missing. In working with over 25,000 soon-to-retire employees, I often asked the question, “When you retire, what will you miss most from your work experience?” Note, these employees worked for large companies an...

Pac-12 preview: Our assessment of the coaching Hot Seats, Cold Seats and nonexistent seats

Scan the contract terms across the Pac-12, and one item leaps off the screen: Every coach will enter the 2023 season with at least five years of security.Sure, terminations can strike at any point. But a coaching change following this season — or next season, for that matters — would assuredly carry a massive buyout for the coaches at the 10 public schools required to make the contracts available. That suggests ultra-low levels of heat for each coach. But the Hotline prefers to gauge the seat temperature one or two layers down, where contract details fade and the reality of a win-now profession lurks.(Please note: Salaries cited below are taken from published reports or school disclosures and are averaged for the duration of the term.)Arizona’s Jedd FischContract: signed through 2027 (salary: $3.3 million)Seat heat: Chilly as a late-November evening in Tucson: jacket and beanie required.Comment: Fisch is not in any danger of losing his job, even if Arizona fails to ...
